Debut blackened sludge album from Australian doom veterans, Space Bong. Recorded live without any mixing or mastering, this underground classic was salvaged from erasure only by luck, to slowly make its way around the world to praise and distain. Few bands match the ease with which misery and despair emanate from the riffs and vocal outrage captured on this 4 song, 70 minute tribute to ultra-underground modern doom.

'There's no justice in the world; I recently looked up both 'doom' and 'drone' in the dictionary and to my utter disappointment there wasn't a picture of Space Bong under either definition. This is an outrage in my eyes because, for me, they are the physical manifestation of both words. This entire album is one continuous outpouring of genius' - Metal As Fuck

'Drawing from the disgust of EYEHATEGOD, the sonic terror of Darkthrone, and the drone of Sunn O))), the South Australian six-piece have perfected a form of doom that conveys the very essence of isolation and despair. Few bands – especially in the metal world – are capable of expressing such a complex and nuanced ideas through their music. Space Bong remain a high water mark for sonic intensity, and one of the absolute perfectors of trance inducing drone. From the opening riffs to the immense crescendo, The Death of Utopia still crushes me a full eight years on from its original release.' - Art As Catharsis

'Wow this is brutal with a capital B, Space Bong have released a 4 track 70 minute Doom Laden, Sludge Fest that really defines what the genre is all about. From the opening couple of minutes you are bombarded with some of heaviest riffage you will likely ever hear. Certainly some of the heaviest music ever to come out of Australia, this is terrifying sick Doom in the vein of "Khanate" and "Burning Witch. Conclusion is if you like your Doom, long and epic with a great deal of tortured vocals and music to match then you will love this. 9/10'.

"Praise for Space Bong‘s The Death Of Utopia from San Francisco’s aQuarius Records: In our quest for the heaviest, trippiest, sludgiest, most psychedelic doom ever, we thought we had finally found the holy grail, in the form of UK outfit Bong. No beating around the psychedelic stoner doom bush, no ‘cosmic whatever’ or ‘high priests of blah blah blah’, no, Bong got right to the heart of it, naming themselves after the very relic that truly must have inspired most of the bands we love.
We can almost imagine a massive bong, painted gold and surrounded by demonic seraphim, hanging above an altar in some sort of alternate universe cathedral, where all of our beloved groups worship, attaining divine inspiration, delivered to us in the form of drug soaked, tripped out ultra heavy sonic blissouts.

But one thing we forgot to consider, one element that could, and very likely would, trump the simple bong, one thing that would elevate that essential and beloved stoner relic to the next level, more cosmic than earthbound, an implement derived to catapult the group, and the group’s listeners to the heart of the sun, taking the legacy of all the came before, from Hawkwind to Bong, from Pink Floyd to Bongzilla, and sending them into space.
It worked for Jason Voorhees (Jason X is INSANE), and it works for these Aussie doomlords, the awesomely named SPACE BONG, whose name promises extreme spaced out psychedelic heaviness, and most definitely delivers!
But, while you might be expecting, dirgey, abject, Bunker-like sludge, or even droned out Bong like psychedelia, the truth is Space Bong land somewhere inbetween, adding a healthy does of melody, their sound beholden to classic doom, as much as newer, weirder, slower stuff. Four loooooooong tracks, the shortest 12 minutes plus the longest over 21 minutes. The sound is massive, downtuned guitars, pounding drums, dueling vocals, one a demonic bellow, the other a Khanate like shriek, and while the ingredients aren’t all that different than other doom outfits, it’s what they do with it that counts.
The opener, begins with a weird ambient intro before launching into a glorious sprawl of plodding slo-mo crush, then out of nowhere, super catchy guitar harmonies suddenly surface, soaring over the churning chug below, and then dissipate, leaving a field of pulsing feedback over tribal drumming, weirdly hypnotic and tranced out. And when the vocals come in, the result is some sort of super tripped out avant abstract psychedelic doom drift, which instead of slipping back into the doom that started things off, locks into a weird droned out deathmarch chugscape, before finally exploding into a final blast of furious psych doom.
And the thing is, it’s not all doom in Space Bong land, the second track is downright rocking, almost stonery in fact. A killer main riff, swaggery and snarly, but it’s really just a feint, cuz a minute later, the song collapses into another stretch of feedback drenched glacial creep. This time, buzz heavy bass drives the woozy churn, the sound super dynamic, lots of starts and stops, weird stretches of tranced out guitars, bursts of feedback, drones galore, not to mention some psychedelic noise, some glitched out ambience, processed vox, and all sorts of other chaotic noise woven into Space Bong‘s twisted druggy doom.
And we’re only halfway through! The second half of the records plays out similarly, big bombastic drumming, some seriously classic metal sounding riffing, more harmonized guitars, wild squalls of keening feedback, fields of grinding guitar noise, super tripped out near ambient dronescapes, stretches of twisted mathiness. And a little bit of groove here and there, the closer displaying some seriously Sabbathy swing, and some killer psychedelic leads, and a super crazy catchy almost NWOBHM sounding final few minutes, albeit on the tail end of some seriously extreme dirge / sludge crush."

Track Name: (Intro) Utopia
From within the darkness roams
Terror being suffering
In search of a place to grow
Curse and cure
Friend and foe
This thing that isn't me
Grotesque obscene

A ghost without shape or form
Molest in vain
The bleeding can't stop
Docile lamb flocks

We're all dead
A scene of slaughter
Les gehts fuck
Graveyard of misplaced hope
Dreams of Utopia die
Grotesque obscene

Broken/ I see myself as scum/ Worthy once
Now embroiled in futility/ Allies of enemies merge as one vague memory
Rebel, feel the cause and effect
A death wish to share/ Eat up little ones
Regurgitate the uprising shit/ Rhetoric without the gloss
I am you/ I hate you/ We are at war

Live by the sword/ Die by your word/ Whispers amplified to screams
When the numbers count/ No moral man will hear/ Deaf do us part
Crawl into a hole of meaningless disgrace/ Whose words?
I don't know/ When the voice you hear is the voice of a stranger

The black flag has been bleached/ Surrender
Blood-stained our colour turns to red
As one you drop into the abyss
One step ahead or behind
I leave you to stand in line

We're all dead
Les gehts fuck

When the light begins to fade
As the harsh coldness of life
Is revealed
Hope that once carried the soul
The days are numb
The nights aren't there
And I don't care anymore

Pull the trigger
Oppress this mind
The Lie eradicated

And I don't care anymore
We're dead
Track Name: Death Kneel (The New Death)
Piss up against the Wall
This world's about to fall
Care not for the living
Don't give a damn for the dead
What we call life is in our heads
A curiosity of consciousness that leads for fucking nowhere

Sweating out disease of will
No drug seems to fulfil
I've tried screaming black
I've tried smashing through the cracks
But everyday I try won't take me back
The long road lost when I forgot where I was
Another dark night in the mould

Now it's coming down

One thought
One drink
One cell to release a million fears
In the realm of the meek of it all means nothing

One word
One fuck
One friend pushed too far
Take another swing
Beneath the crazed gun on the fake skin, you're the trend

Can't hope for happiness
Don't ant your forgiveness
Take what's mine
Leave it all behind
Get on with life
Gonna fuck up till I die

Till I die I'm on my knees begging to be sexually relieved

Society in collapse, the final party is now to be had
Drink away all regrets while the life-blood still flows

Pass out in the street of blackened maybes
The junction splits into infinite possibilities

But our journey has come to an abrupt end
Welcome, welcome one and all to the death kneel

Death Kneel

Take me away with the flood of the end days
Sweep into chaos as a child raised today
To scared to breath to scared to even be
The exit blocked by corpses drenched in piss
A ditch of shit too good for us to rest
Weeds grow over what was once so beautiful
Sympathy lost till I find where I put my drink
One for none and none for fuck you all
Track Name: Master/Slave (All the Rage)
Disgust settles in the pit of my soul
As mud settles in the bottom of an abandoned swamp
The water is clear
Yet the dirt remains
Thicker than ever
Waiting for another gagged and bound
Corpse to shatter the piece of mind
Baring unique marks of its torturer
The body sufferers even in death
Necrophiliacs resurrect

Our world/Your world
Sick world
Rape In/Out
While the silent lay awake

Pathetic ego
Of the Other/ Self
While the blind lead the way

Master- Take my will I want to no more- enslave the human race
Words- Persuade my other half to deny- disguise dystopia
Hope- With the end in sight one hide- is no more
Soul-my faithful companion in deceit- rotten to the core
Hope- Bury myself in the void of lies- is no more
Track Name: The Black Wall
I've tried so hard- Feel the cold
To be this thing- Embrace my soul
Every step to the depths- Accept this fate

Angry at all but one- Streams of thought
Anonymous hidden- Take me in circles
i am the eternal nothing- Cleansed of all difference

Scream at a black wall
Echoes resound
The voices- Unknown

I've heard these calls before
Not their own

Scream at a black wall
Echoes resound
The voices- Unknown

Meaning stripped bare
Nowhere is home
Only alone

Severe bonds
Contact death
Friendship false
Dog eat dog
Eat my fucking shit
Take this
The candle burned out long ago
I'm gone

Yet beneath all the hate
There are a few that make
Life something than rather nothing
But only a few...

This dark age can't take away what has always been the same
Our scent Our soul Our Deathpunk fucking hell
We hurt because we love We think because we feel
I'd rather die than live in your world
